Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) provided by a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) includes:

  • A review of your eating habits and lifestyle.

  • A thorough assessment of your nutritional status.

  • An individualized diet and activity treatment plan based on individual preference, medication, current health and family health history, appropriate physical activity and eating concerns.

  • Support through healing or assisting in preventing further complications or future illnesses.

The initial visit with the RD/RDN takes approximately 30 minutes – 1 hour. After the first session, the RD/RDN will schedule follow-up appointments to check on your progress and see if changes are needed in your nutrition goals and treatment plan. Together with the RD/RDN, you will set nutrition goals to improve your health.

MNT through local health departments improves quality of life and maximizes limited health care resources with a focus on the importance of nutrition in growth and development.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Elizabeth Howard, RD, LD at Elizabeth.howard@barrenriverhealth.org or 270-781-8039 ext. 224.

Currently we offer MNT to our WIC program participants.
